Peridot is gem-quality olivine, and is one of the few gemstones that occurs in only one colour; that gorgeous green that ranges from almost gold to deep, dark olive. It is the birthstone for August, and the national gemstone of Egypt; in Hawaiian lore, peridot was thought to be formed from the tears of Pele, goddess of the volcanoes. There is even a "green" beach on the Big Island, where the sand is mixed with grains of glittering olivine! Historically, peridot was believed to strengthen friendships, lessen envy and jealousy and heal the physical heart, and like most green stones, peridot has come to symbolize prosperity, good health and good luck.
These airy, open-work silver earrings are set with bright spring-green peridot cabochons that glow against their silver frame. A simple, striking sterling wire construction supports the stone setting, and the silver gleams with a high polish. The stones are set with solid, highly polished back plates to reflect tons of light through their depths. A perfect everyday earring, these measure 1.7" (4.3 cm) long by approximately .4" (1 cm) wide at their widest point, and are light and lovely to wear thanks to their open-work construction and fun swing. A pair of clear silicone stoppers is included to keep them securely on your ears.
I have recycled some of the silver used to make these earrings; melting sterling scrap down to form silver ingots, flattening and drawing the silver down to plate and wire using hammers and my rolling mill, and then using this newly reclaimed silver to create my work. These peridots were sourced from PierreRouge in Marieville, Québec.
All of my jewelry is made by me in my cozy home studio and will be shipped to you as shown, beautifully packaged and ready for giving as a gift for someone special (like yourself...?)
